Hospital
Cost Centre Model
| Why is having cost centres so important? The paramount reason is for hospital management to be able to allocate their scarce resources in the most efficient and effective manner. A solution is to use existing data flows and systems. Tap into these to derive the appropriate and necessary data and within the right time periods. The result is a tailor made cost centre system providing department and unit heads with good financial and statistical information, activity costs and allows for comparisons between units and between time periods. Trends can be established and monitored, allowing for timely corrective actions to be taken as required. |

Nursing
Acuity Model
| Nursing is the backbone of every hospital. It is the single biggest cost driver accounting for between 32% to 40% of total costs. Computing requirements for nursing has always been resisted. The nursing acuity model is totally user friendly and allows for many variables which are matched to the patient nursing needs. The model is not prescriptive as it merely models all the inputs to arrive at optimal nursing levels. These inputs, especially those affecting nursing grades and intensity levels, are those provided by nursing management in conjunction with the hospital’s HR department. |
